Nadia van der Spek is working on the project ‘Living after cancer’ since april 2011. Her main task is to conduct a randomised controlled trial of the effectiveness of an existential group therapy for cancer survivors. Goal of this group therapy is to help people who suffer from cancer to find ways to live their life meaningfully, despite physical limitations and uncertainties. Her supervisors are JoÑ‘l Vos and Irma Verdonck.
In the past she has worked for Rutgers WPF as a researcher and consultant. Among other things, she helped developing a self help website about sexuality and chronic disease. In 2009 she finished her master Clinical Psychology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).
At the moment she is combining her work at the VU with a job as health education officer and researcher at Jellinek (centre for addiction treatment) in Amsterdam.
